The midwestern region of the United States incorporates part of the Great Lakes as well as the much of the Great Plains.  The region is focused on agriculture with a few large cities sprinkled though the area.  The modern cities are a stark contrast the plains of the region.

Grand Forks, North Dakota is more than just one city in one state.  It is one city divided by the Red River of the North.  Half the city is in North Dakota and the other half is in Minnesota.  The towns have built a fantastic greenway to showcase the beauty of the Red River valley. It has an interesting relationship with the Red River of the North. The Red River has provided the local agricultural industry for generations, yet some years the river spills over its banks and flood the town. Enjoy the suburbs in Rosemont, Illinois

Rosemont, Illinois is located just outside of Chicago and provides a great place to stay without paying Chicago prices. It is a short commute to many of the Chicago attractions such as Navy Pier or Willis Tower.  Rosemont is also home to one of Illinois’s largest flea markets and outlet shopping centers. Be sure to check out great hotels along the city’s greenway.

Have fun at the Indy in Indianapolis, Indiana

Indianapolis, Indiana is famous for the Indianapolis 500 race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  The city isn’t just a motocross city, but it is also known for its sports teams. One can visit the NCAA Hall of Champions and remember the collegiate champions of the past as well as attend an NFL game at the Lucas Oil Stadium to see the Indianapolis Colts.  Don’t forget to take in some American Indian art in Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art.  If you are staying in the city, be sure to check out the many great hotels such as Marriott Indianapolis Downtown.

There is much to explore in Lansing, Michigan, from visiting museums to checking out the science center and zoo. The city is home to the R. E. Olds Transportation Museum, which is focused on the important role Michigan played in American transportation as well as the automobile. The Potter Park Zoo provides an impressive collection of rare wildlife from around the world.  If you have the kids with you, make sure to check out the Impression 5 Science Center. Children of all ages will enjoy the hands-on experiences offered at the center.

Thrill Seeking in Cincinnati, Ohio

If you plan on visiting Cincinnati, Ohio, then you are in for an exciting experience. Cincinnati offers a variety of activities including a great shopping area as well as a theme park. Right outside of the city you will find King’s Island, which boasts that it is the largest amusement and water park in the midwest. It is also home to the world’s longest inverted rollar coaster. If thrill seeking isn’t your thing, be sure to check out the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden for a relaxing and fun afternoon. Or, depending on the season, you can attend a Cincinnati Reds or Bengals game.
