~Questions From Mags~

If you could only return to one destination (aside from where you live) for the rest of your life, where would it be?

I would go live in Iceland.  This year I did an amazing road trip around the island. Even with it being winter, there was so much to do and explore.  Plus I love the cold.  I am already planning a summer trip to Iceland where I plan on hitchhiking about the island.  I see myself with a nice little house somewhere on the coast of East Iceland.  I want a view of one of the fjords where I can watch the puffins on the cliffs.  I want a front yard with a pasture that I can keep a couple of Icelandic horses.

What’s your least favorite place you’ve traveled to and why?

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

I would have to say Dubai was my least favorite place.  I am very glad I cut the trip down to two days from the 5 I had originally planned.  If you aren’t there to shop or spend money, there isn’t a lot to do.  I went up the Burj Khalifa and saw the sights but it wasn’t nearly as much fun as I have had in other cities.  Now other the other had, I had an amazing time at a resort in the Liwa Desert.

How far in advance do you usually plan a trip?

Not very.  I am doing good to have a plan outline finalized before I leave for the trip.  I don’t like commitment and I hate being stuck in a plan.  One advantage of traveling alone is flexibility. It is much easier to find a hostel bed for one.  I generally book things like hostels the night before.  Tours might get booked a couple of days out depending on the season.  My upcoming road trip to South Dakota got planned two days before I planned on leaving.

What is the first thing you do when you arrive in a new city?

I find a local bar and ask the bartender for a recommendation for something local on tap.  I have never had a bartender give me a bad beer.  I have had beers I don’t like but never a bad beer.  The only downside is that sometimes you get great beer and then will never get to have it again.

Do you have a favorite item you never travel without?  (particular suitcase, backpack, camera, etc.)

I never go anywhere without my Blue Nalgene bottle.  I have had the bottle since I was in high school. It has been on every adventure I have been on since then.  It went has been almost everywhere I have been.  It wears its stickers with pride.  It’s scratches are battle scars.

Share your best travel memory or experience.

My best travel memory is traveling with my parents to Glacier National Park, Montana.  I loved getting learning to spot animal through binoculars and his telescope.  We spent many hours using his telescope to find Big horn sheep on cliff faces.

Now, share your worst.

My worst travel experience was splitting up while hiking and having a person go missing.  In 2010, two friends and I went hiking in North Cascades National Park.  The plan was to hike to Hidden Lake.  The trail starts in Baker National Forest and then goes into North Cascades National Park.  About halfway up the trail out group split up.  The male member of our group hiked ahead.  Due to snow conditions, the other girl and I didn’t make it all the way up the trail.  We turned around and assumed he would figure it out and meet us at the trailhead. Needless to say he didn’t and we had to report him missing.  I didn’t know there could be jurisdictional issues when hiking in a National Park from a National Forest.

How long have you been blogging and what inspired you to start?

I officially started this blog in at the start of 2015.  It has been in the works since July 2014.  I was inspired by the other blogs I had read.  They helped me so much in my travels and I wanted to return the favor.

Where was the last place you traveled?

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

My last big adventure was a road trip from Tennessee to Pennsylvania to Ohio to Wisconson and then to Colorado.  I stopped at my 29th National Park and saw some friend and family along the way.

Where are you headed to next?

My next adventure is to South Dakota.  I have a week long road trip planned to the national parks in the South Dakota.
