Today's Photo Thursday was taken while I was staying at a 5 star resort in the Rub' al Khali desert in the Abu DhabiEmirates, United Arab Emirates.

Every Thursday, I will be posting a photo from double exposure photography. Today’s Photo Thursday was taken while I was living in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.    I spent my last couple of days in the UAE  at a 5 star desert resort in the Rub’ al Khali.  Rub’ al Khali is the largest contiguous sand desert and takes up one-third of the Arabian peninsula.  The sand dunes are made of a fine red sand that helps reflect the colors of the sun.

I spent 3 nights enjoying the sights, sounds, and adventures of the desert.  I took this photo on my first night at the resort during a light dinner after my camel ride.  I looked across the desert and knew that I was about as close as I can get to visiting Saudi Arabia.  I took time to ride a camel, go dune bashing, walk in the desert, and try my hand at archery while at the resort.  I also spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool.  The camel was an interesting ride.  It was rather similar to a horse yet very different.  I had fun and can’t wait to try it again.  Dune bashing is amazing, but be aware that it isn’t for people who get motion sickness.

The desert sands might look a little familiar to Star Wars fans.  Some of the desert scenes from the Episodes IV-VIII were filmed in this desert.  I didn’t learn this until my last day at the resort.  My driver told me that the area we were dune bashing was near where Harrison Ford (aka Hans Solo) broke his leg while filming Star Wars: The Force Awakens
