Every Thursday, I will be posting a photo from my travels and a spotlight on the location. Today’s Spotlight Thursday is from my ‘I am going to travel while job hunting trip’ to Europe. Well actually, my plan to spend a couple months in Europe became two weeks in the UK because I pretty much set-up two interviews with in three days of landing in London. As part of the trip, I took the bus down from London to Canterbury and then Canterbury to Dover. Upon arriving at Dover, I visited Dover castle and the newly opened, Dover tunnels. I then took a taxi over to the White Cliffs of Dover.
I don’t like plans and reservations. They mean I am committed to an committed to being at a certain place at a certain time. My travel style is free flowing and a desire to follow the whim of the moment. Travelling without hostels and activities pre-arranged is scary and has some risk. I generally plan as I go. I will book hostels and tours the night before. It’s a good day when have stuff booked two days in advance. Sometimes places are full and things can go wrong but I have never been completely in over my head. I have never been left to sleep without a roof over my head. Here are my tips and tricks to prevent complete disaster while travelling with no plan.
Every Thursday, I will be posting a photo from my travels and a spotlight on the location. Today’s Photo Thursday is from my trip to the Roman Bath in Bath England, United Kingdoms. I had planned to spend a couple of days in Bath but due to an interview I had to cut my trip short. I took a three-hour bus trip from London to Bath. I used Megabus since all the National Express Buses were full. Megabus did a great job and got me to Bath on time. Once in Bath, I dropped my stuff off at my hostel and went to the Bath Visitor Center. I decide to save time by purchasing one of the multiple venue pass to bypass the line for the Roman Bath. It was only a couple of extra Pounds. It was worth it to skip the two-hour line. I took about 4 hours to tour the Roman Baths and exploring the history.
Every Thursday, I will be posting a photo from my travels. Today’s Photo Thursday is from the top of the London Eye in London, England, United Kingdoms. The Eye is 135m (443 ft) tall and the tallest Ferris wheel in Europe. It is one of the most popular attractions in London. While I was planning my trip to London, I wasn’t planning on going up the Eye. Walking across the River Thames, I decided that I couldn’t go to London and not go on the Eye. I purchased a ticket and into the 30-minute cue I went. I spent the time examining the structure. Once I boarded the moving capsule, the 30-minute journey around the wheel began.
