Spotlight Thursday – Hiking in Tayrona National Natural Park, Colombia

Every Thursday, I will be posting a photo from my travels and a spotlight on the location. Today’s Spotlight Thursday is from my trip to Colombia. 10 Epic Statues in San Agustin Parque Arqueologico

I leave my hostel, Casa de Nelly, and walk a half-mile up a winding dirt road to towards San Agustin Parque Arqueologico.  I had stopped several times to ask a local for directions.  Most it was “Parque Arqueologico?” and they point further down the road.  San Agustin Parque Arqueologico is a  UNESCO World Heritage Site.  The park is home to South America’s largest collection of religious monuments and megalithic sculptures.  Most of the monuments were discovered buried in the ground as well as near many tombs. Two women supervise in the shade of their hut. I bring up my camera and take a few pictures from where I stand. I haven’t been granted permission to enter their homestead. My guide, Carlos, is talking to an older Mamo, leader. He has stopped into chat and see if there is any news from the nearby village. Continue Reading . . .

The feeder is currently empty, but I know with a little patience, I am sure I will be rewarded.  I quietly unpack my camera gear and set up my tripod.  Out of the corner of my eye, I see a blue streak fly by. Gotta!  There goes the reason I hike the Valley of Cocora and the Acaime Natural Reserve. Continue Reading . . .
