Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina is a small town called Blowing Rock. The town’s name comes from a rocky outcropping near the town. When a heavy wind blows through the Johns River Gorge below, the outcropping’s steep vertical walls force the wind up vertically.
