Treasure Island might lack Captain Flint’s treasure, but it is the home of three miles of golden, sandy beach. The island is a relaxing place to spend a day enjoying its treasured beach. Treasure Island is a short drive from St. Petersburg and Tampa. It is close enough that one can make day trips to visit Busch Gardens in Tampa or the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina is a small town called Blowing Rock. The town’s name comes from a rocky outcropping near the town. When a heavy wind blows through the Johns River Gorge below, the outcropping’s steep vertical walls force the wind up vertically.
