Spotlight Thursday – Hanging out at Hanging Lake, Colorado

Every Thursday, I will be posting a photo from my travels and a spotlight on the location. Today’s Spotlight Thursday is from my time living in Fort Collins, Colorado.  One week I had some free time so I decided to drive down and hike the Hanging Lake Trail.  Hanging Lake trail is hidden above the Colorado River in Glenwood Canyon.  Glenwood Canyon is a unique canyon.  It is one of my favorite canyon drives in the United States.  Interstate 70 which runs thru the canyon was specifically designed to preserve the natural beauty of the canyon. Spotlight Thursday – Wandering along the White Cliffs of Dover, England

Every Thursday, I will be posting a photo from my travels and a spotlight on the location. Today’s Spotlight Thursday is from my ‘I am going to travel while job hunting trip’ to Europe. Well actually, my plan to spend a couple months in Europe became two weeks in the UK because I pretty much set-up two interviews with in three days of landing in London. As part of the trip, I took the bus down from London to Canterbury and then Canterbury to Dover. Upon arriving at Dover, I visited Dover castle and the newly opened, Dover tunnels. I then took a taxi over to the White Cliffs of Dover. Continue Reading . . .

Spotlight Thursday – Canaletto’s humor in the rebuilding of Warsaw, Poland

Every Thursday, I will be posting a photo from my travels and a spotlight on the location. Today’s Spotlight Thursday is from my trip to Warsaw, Poland.  It is a vibrant young city, yet it has a very historical feel to it.  Wandering thru the streets, one can see the architecture from the 13th to the 21st century.  Yet, just 15% of the buildings were built before 1944.   Warsaw was the third most destroyed city during WWII.  It sits be Hiroshima and Nagasaki in destruction.  The rebuilding of Warsaw, Poland was a monumental effort with amazing results. Some of the very prodigious structures obviously showed signs of dilapidation, which led me to conclude that some of the most trivial, common issues with roof no matter how small they are, lead to the hamartia of a whole heritage. Spotlight Thursday – Amusment that never came to Pripyat, Ukraine

Every Thursday, I will be posting a photo from my travels and a spotlight on the location. Today’s Spotlight Thursday is from my dark tourism tour of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.  Pripyat, Ukraine was a  hip young city in Ukraine that was virtually unknown outside of the region.  That anonymity was elevated to infamy in the early hours of  26 April 1986.  Just a few miles away from the city was the V.I. Lenin Nuclear Power Station (Cherynbol, the Soviets couldn’t call it the Lenin disaster after all). Continue Reading . . .

Spotlight Thursday – An Iconic View of the Eiffel Tower

Every Thursday, I will be posting a photo from my travels and a spotlight on the location. Today’s Photo Thursday was taken while I was visiting Paris, France for training before I headed off to Equatorial Guinea.    The Eiffel Tower is the iconic landmark of France.  This was my second trip to Paris so I didn’t feel the need to head up the tower but I did stop by for a visit.
