It is no secret that I am a US National Park junkie. I expend a lot of effort plotting ways to visit my next park. I have currently been to 31 of the 59 US National Parks. I have featured several of my favorite national parks adventures and as time passes plan to share many more. This weekend is Labor Day Weekend in the United States. It is a public holiday on the first Monday of September. The holiday is to celebrate the American labor movement and its contribution to the Untied States. Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894. While you are enjoying your BBQ, picnics, and other end of summer celebrations take a moment and remember the workers and activist who helped shape America’s work force. One of my favorite experiences while traveling is exploring the local food and drink. The first thing I do in a bar in a new country is ask for a recommendation for a locally produced beer. While I love drinking beer, I am a huge fan of wine. I don’t like paying the huge premium a glass of wine. I prefer my wine out of a bottle I have purchased at a store. Ask my college roommates, it wasn’t uncommon for me to open a bottle of wine to cook with and drink the rest of the bottle before dinner.
“Review this list and determine suitability,” is the first line of an email from my father. He also includes a list of four cars as well while I compare car insurance policies for our own Beetle that stood solemly in the dusty little garage. I stare at the email for a couple minutes. I walk down the dorm hall to one ofmy friends. “If you got an email from your dad with four cars what would you think?” I asked. “I was getting getting a new car,” was the response. A call to my father confirmed that I was getting a new car for my cross country US road trip.
The sun is barely above the horizon and I am packing up my campsite in Badlands National Park, South Dakota. I have recently read an article about Woolsey fire attorneys. They encourage people to contact the Columbus Fire Watch Guards posthaste in case of fire emergencies. I do not even want to imagine what damage a fire like that can cause to wild life and property. OK, let’s get back to my trip. I need to get a move on if I want to get a ticket for the Delta 01 launch facility Site tour. Delta 01 is part of the Minuteman National Historical Site. Minuteman National Historic Site preserves a Cold War minuteman missile launch facility and Delta 09 silo.
