Starting in early May, over 200 people arrive to work in Mount Rainier National Park. These people come from all over the world to spend the summer in the Park. These people live and work on the mountain. They are split between the National Park Inn, Paradise Inn, and Sunrise Visitor Center. The staff comes from different walks of life; the college students, the park bums, and the retires looking for something to do.
Happy Earth Day! Earth day was founded 45 years ago to celebrate the Earth. The giant blue sphere that is our home. In the excitement of celebrating, don’t forget to drink a toast John Muir. Yesterday, John Muir celebrated his 177th birthday. Happy Birthday, John! I know I am a day late, but its the though that counts.
It’s 6 am on a Saturday morning, and two of my freshman floormates and I are getting ready to make a two-hour drive. It’s mid-January and even in Florida the temperature is a crisp 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Despite the chilly weather, we are driving to Cyststal River to swim in Three Sisters Spring. The weather isn’t conducive to swimming in a spring. Even if said spring is a perfect 72 degrees Fahrenheit year around.
In early October 2013, I received the email that every college senior hopes for. It was an offer letter from my first choice company. Two roads diverged in a yellow wood. The offer opened a whole new world. It wasn’t just an offer, it was an offer for an international mobile position. I was asked to expatriate in West Africa. Two roads stood before me: the well-worn safe route of taking a job in the US or the uncharted territory of being an expat. Sorry I could not travel both,
